Q. What are the dates of the Summer Internship?
A. The internship runs from June 1 - August 5, 2010.
Q. Where is the Summer Institute located?
A. We're in Jerusalem, located in the center of the oh-so-hip German Colony. There are a huge variety of decently priced restaurants, cultural events throughout the summer, and buses galore to other parts of Jerusalem. You'll be in the middle of it all!
Q. Do you offer part time summer internships?
A. Sorry, we do not offer any part time internships during the summer. But if you're around during the year (September-May), we'd love to have you join us! Email interns@presentense.org for more information.

Q. Does PresenTense cover the cost of my flight or housing?
A. PresenTense is unable to cover flight or room and board. However we can refer you to an excellent travel agent, and are researching options to arrange discounted housing for interns. We will cover the cost of a monthly bus pass within Jerusalem, for free travel around the city.
Q. What's the application process like?
A. Our application deadline is March 1. Once you fill out the form here, we begin the review process, and will set up phone interviews (or an in person interview if you're located in Jerusalem) with promising candidates. We expect to have final decisions by the end of March.
Q. So you really need this many interns to make copies and brew coffee?
A. We regard coffee as a significant part of the institute. That said, the only coffee you'll have to make is for yourself! Interns are an integral part of the PresenTense staff and receive roles and responsibilities that you can't get at other companies or organizations. Each intern works under the guidance of a PresenTense staff member and is responsible for his or her own projects. Whether it's writing press releases, designing our summer's mini-issue publication, planning the Institute's Launch Night event, creating new website content, or assessing the institute as a whole, we assure you that you'll develop your skills, learn new things, and contribute to the success of our summer institute.
Q. I have an awesome idea for an internship - but I don't see it listed under your available positions!
A. Pitch us! If you have an amazing skill you think we can't live without, or an idea for a position you don't see listed - tell us about it and your unique qualifications in the application form. We just might take you up on your offer!

Q. The program for the fellows sounds awesome - lunch and learns, exclusive speakers, exciting trips. Surely we interns are barred from such cool events.
A. Au contraire - we encourage interns to attend all our programming, including programs which are closed to the public! Interns are welcome to attend all skillbuilding sessions, lunch and learns, speakers series, shabbatonim, and our two day trips. You'll have the opportunity to learn from leaders in the fields of venture capital, education, the arts, social action, and more. Past speakers and teachers include sociologist Steven M. Cohen, venture capitalist Michael Eisenberg from Benchmark Capital, Jewish philosopher Yossi Klein Halevi of the Shalem Center, Roi Carthy of TechCrunch, Oramed Pharmaceuticals CEO Nadav Kidron, and Becky Caspi of UJC Israel. What other internship will enable you to learn from these notable pioneers?
Q. Do we interns get any special bonding time with PresenTense staff?
A. Yes! Over the first three days of the internship, interns will participate in an orientation with staff. During the summer, we will have weekly bugtracking meetings, where interns talk with staff about how their internships are going, as well as 2-3 intern breakfasts with staff.

Q. Ok, so what do past interns REALLY think of their internships?
A. Here's what Tali, a journalism and media intern in 2009, had to say:
You know what you don't want in an internship. You do not want to make coffee for eight hours. At PresenTense, one of the directors and founders made ME coffee (well, Cafe Hafooch to be exact). That is what PresenTense is all about - teamwork and a sense of equality. Everyone in the Emek Refaim building constantly works together. As an intern, you are never taken advantage of or looked down upon.
During my six weeks as a journalism intern, the sky was the limit. I had the freedom and responsibility of updating the web site - from blogs to photos to videos. I learned and did new things everyday. I would do flipcam videos, interview upcoming speakers, and blog on all events. Needless to say, I was never bored on the job.
The supportive and encouraging environment at PresenTense is not an easy one to find. And this internship is one you really don't want to pass by!
